Spring On Avery's Creek

Painting the spring landscape near Asheville, my friend Richard Oversmith and I found this flower lined creek and couldn't pass it up!

Richard Oversmith painting at Avery's Creek

Here is a shot of the scene

And here is my version

"Spring On Avery's Creek" oil on panel 14" x 11"
SOLD

Time of day and lighting are so critical when out looking for subjects in the landscape. By the time Richard and I finished up, the sun had shifted to its zenith, rendering this lovely scene flat as a pancake!

Tea With Lemon

"Tea With Lemon"  oil on panel  8" x 10"

Recently I've been working on some still life painting, a nice break from mainly landscapes... especially during these cold winter months.  This piece was almost monochromatic, with the emphasis on those lemony-lemons.

Morning In The Italian Garden II - Studio Version

"Morning In The Italian Garden II  oil on panel  20" x 24"

After a plein-air painting done in early September, I was inspired to use it as my jumping-off point for this larger studio version.  I feel that I captured the misty morning mood from the plein-air painting while then letting this piece go where it wanted.

Franklin Paint-Out

Artists hard at work!
This past weekend, Jon Houglum www.houglumfineart.com organized a very well attended paint-out in Franklin, NC.  The weather was absolutely spectacular, as you can see in this photo, and we all gathered around the old Penland Farm, where there was plenty to paint!

"October Fields"  oil on linen  14" x 18"
Here is a vista near the farm that I just couldn't resist.  Late afternoon light with the first touches of Autumn was more than enough to inspire.

"Penland's Farm"  oil on panel  11" x 14"
I was in Franklin back in July, so here is an early summer version of "Penlands Farm".
