DAY 13: Ramshackled

DAY 13:  "Ramshackled" 11x 14 oil on panel
SOLD
I was intrigued by this old tattered house for a number of years... one day, the light was just right and I quickly set up and painted as fast as I could.  On a later outing, and not long after this piece, I was stunned and saddened to discover nothing but an empty field where this old soldier once stood.

DAY 12: The Old Depot

DAY 12:  "The Old Depot" 11 x 11  oil on panel
SOLD
Day 12's addition is a plein air painting I did a couple of years ago.  This little town is like a step back in time... reason being, it's located with a river on one side and a steep mountain/cliff on the other... it really can't grow and sprawl like so many places, there's a unique character here that I really like.

DAY 11: Morning At Paint Rock

DAY 11:  "Morning At Paint Rock" 18 x 24  oil on stretched linen
SOLD
For DAY 11's addition, I decided to 'go big'! This beautiful stream was so inspiring to paint, the softness of the colors, the quiet, gentle water moving past was downright hypnotic! This painting's 'gallery price' is $2600... but this is a Fundraiser Super Special!

I found several pieces of stoneware a couple of years ago, and was particularly intrigued and amused by this interesting vessel.. I particularly liked the dripping blue glaze at the handle base.

DAY 9: Cedar Ridge Afternoon

DAY 8:  "Cedar Ridge Afternoon"  5.75" x 7.5" oil on panel
SOLD
This spectacular old house has been under renovation for several years, and one that I've admired on many occasions.  I found that the brilliant afternoon sun hitting the facade contrasted with the beautiful slate roof made for a striking combination.

DAY 8: Farmhouse Morning

DAY 8:  "Farmhouse Morning"  8 x 10 oil on panel

For this day's addition, this is a little plein air painting in one of the most beautiful and hidden spots near my home in North Carolina. I've painted this old house on several occasions, but with the morning light, I had to have another go.

DAY 7: Blue Pitcher With Minneolas And Amber Bottle

DAY 7:  "Blue Pitcher With Minneolas and Amber Bottle"
8 x 8 oil on linen panel

This marvelous blue pitcher that's featured, again, in DAY 7'S addition is another favorite of mine for still life painting.  I've never heard of a "minneola" before, but on a recent trip to Trader Joe's I immediately saw them paired with the pitcher.  I think the amber bottle adds a nice additional touch of interest.

DAY 6: Last Night's Flurries

DAY 6:  "Last Night's Flurries"  8 x 10 oil on panel
SOLD
Here is DAY 6's addition: Dramatic foreground cast shadows are what inspired me on this plein air painting.  The cool darks of the ground vegetation and shadow colors helped with the illumination effect of the sunlight.

DAY 5: Blue and White

"Blue And White"  8 x 8 oil on linen panel
SOLD
Here is DAY 5's addition: This little blue and white porcelain box is one of my favorite props to use in doing a still life. Here it is paired with a blue teapot and to offset all the blue, a little complimentary color in the rose.

"Summer's Final Glory"

"Summer's Final Glory"  11" x 14" oil on linen

Just returned from a wonderful painting trip to the coast of Maine, in Boothbay Harbor.  It was the location of this year's PAP-SE (Plein Air Painters of the Southeast) retreat.  This year, we coordinated with Mary Phelps, owner of Coco Vivo Fine Art of Boothbay Harbor (as well as her location in Charleston, SC), to end the week with a one-evening exhibition, which was a huge success!  This piece is one I painted of the last surge of color in the cottage garden in front of the 1800's "Cape House" where I stayed.  It was a somewhat gray day which seemed to make the color explode... I had a fun time painting this, while nibbling on the apples from the tree overhead!

"Little Blue House"

"Little Blue House"  oil on panel 8" x 8"

I got a late start heading out this morning and the weather was stormy and questionable, but I pushed ahead in spite of it all.  The last time I saw this little house, a couple of years ago, it was green, but passing this morning I discovered that it had change clothes and put on a soft blue dress.  The light was striking it just so and the old tree was just the foil that made it all work.  It was a fun morning!
